Nigeria: First Lady to Receive Award On Women Development in Seoul

Seoul — The First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, on Tuesday, arrived in Seoul ahead of an event where she would be honoured for her contributions toward advancing the cause of women in Nigeria.
The president's wife landed at the South Korean Incheon International Airport at 5.10 p.m. in company of wives of the governors of Ebonyi and Benue states.
She was received at the airport by Nigeria's Ambassador to South Korea, Mr Desmond Akawu, together with other dignitaries.
The President's wife would be given an honourary doctorate degree in social welfare and administration by the Hansei University on Thursday in that country, in recognition of her contributions to the downtrodden in Nigeria.
The first lady is scheduled to attend an annual conference organised by the Yoido Full Gospel Church and visit a Samsung hospital. (NAN)

In an interview with The Guardian, Chris stated he had sex with a girl seven years his senior. In the eyes of the law, this is technically known as rape but CB doesn’t seem to think of it that way. Actual, he seemed quite proud of the fact that he “lost his virginity” at such a young age.

Breezy says that things are done differently in “the country” (where he grew up in Tappahannock, Virginia). He also started watching porn at a young age with his boy cousins and says he watched so much that he knew he was ready for action at the age of eight.

Is it just us, or is his sense of pride about the incident strange? He seems to recognise that the circumstances are a bit strange, but he doesn’t acknowledge that this was an assault even if he did initiate it.

Chris has also opened up in the past about his mother being abused by his stepfather when he was “seven or eight”. This came into focus again when Chris was arrested and charged with felony assault after attacking his then girlfriend, Rihanna.

Question is though, did all of that and the recent discovery about his virginity play a role in the destructive behaviour Chris has shown in the past? Or could this simply be used as an excuse?

After the viral story of Rawan, the child bride from Yemen who allegedly suffered from severe sex injuries but eventually was proclaimed as fake news, another Yemeni child bride story came up by a woman named Noora Al Shami. As she recalled how it was when she was forced to marry a man three times her age when she was 11, Daily Mail reports all the truth she exposed to the world.

It was with The Guardian that she said she was first excited with the celebrations of a laving wedding that awaited her as a Yemeni child bride but at the end of the parties that lasted for three days, then began the horror of abuse in different forms that she suffered from.
Noora Al Shami admitted that during the very first time that her older husband tried to initiate sex by taking off her clothes, she decided to be far and away for ten days just so she can avoid the act. But eventually, when she was forced to finally do it, she was rushed to the hospital due to shock.
According to the victim who once was a Yemeni child bride, it was so tough to be treated like an object instead of a person since it seems there was no one to help as she is considered a "legal wife."

The child bride who is now 35 years old also confessed that she suffered from two miscarriages during the span of her marriage. The first one was when she was 13 and the other was when she was 15 years old. It was not only her who was mistreated by her husband but also her children. After ten years, she got help from the Oxfam and the Yemei's Women's Union and filed for divorce.
Noora hopes that her story will inspire more women to fight for their rights since her own mum was also a child bride herself. "I want to make my voice heard and change the lives of women in Yemen. Women shouldn't have to be victims. I suffered domestic violence but now I'm speaking out," Noora said.

"God particle" theorists win Nobel Physics prize in Physics 2013

BEIJING, Oct. 9 (Xinhuanet) -- Belgian scientist Francois Englert and British scientist Peter Higgs have won the 2013 Nobel Prize for Physics. The Royal Swedish Academy in Stockholm handed the two researchers the prize for their work in developing a model in Particle Physics that predicted the existence of the Higgs Boson, or the "God Particle", as the building block of the Universe. The particle was detected by the CERN laboratory in Geneva last year. The discovery and the theory that predicted the particle may lead the way to super fast quantum computing and the most precise clocks ever seen.
The awarded theory is a central part of the Standard Model of particle physics that describes how the world is constructed.
The award carries a prize of 8 million crowns, or 1.2 million U.S. dollars.
Physics is the second of this year’s crop of awards. The prizes for achievements in science, literature and peace, were first awarded in 1901. They were set up in accordance with the will of Swedish inventor and millionaire Alfred Nobel.

UN - 2.7 billion online by year's end...!

   according to the information from Geneva - it was gathered that Around 2.7 billion people - 40% of the world's population - will be connected to the internet by the end of 2013, the United Nations said on Monday.
Another 250 million people came online in 2012, but 4.4 billion people remain unconnected, said the UN's International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
Ninety percent of those not online live in developing countries.
The ITU also said there would be 6.8 billion mobile-cellular subscriptions - almost as many as there are people on the planet - by the end of the year.
South Korea leads the world in information and communication technology (ICT) development for the third consecutive year, followed closely by Sweden, Iceland, Denmark, Finland and Norway, the ITU said in its annual report.
The Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Luxembourg and Hong Kong (China) also rank high, while Britain nudged into the top 10 from 11th position last year, the report said.
The ITU's annual ICT Development Index ranks 157 countries according to their level of ICT access, use and skills.
The report also noted that "mobile broadband is now more affordable than fixed broadband".
