The Bring Back Our Girls group on Tuesday shutdown Abuja city centre to draw attention to the six months in captivity of the abducted Chibok school girls.
The campaigners marched through major streets in the Central Business District of the nation’s capital to the Presidential Villa where they were received on behalf of President Goodluck Jonathan by four female cabinet ministers.
There was heavy security presence in the city centre of Abuja as the Bring Back Our Girls Group marched to the Presidential Villa.
Although the group met some resistance from security operatives the campaigners who called for the rescue operation of the Chibok girls to be intensified insist they would not be intimidated.
Lead campaigner, Oby Ezekwesili queried, “Will insults make any difference to us? Will intimidation affect us?”
Allen Manasseh, said, “What I am saying is we must confront terrorism. We must confront it with every force that is possible. Please this is what we are asking, this is what we want you to tell Mr. President. Our people are hungry, they don’t have houses to sleep, they don’t have food to eat, yet they did not resort to taking arms against anybody.”
The four ministers who received the campaigners message to Mr. President are ministers of environment, women affairs, land and housing and water resources.
Sarah Ochekpe, Minister of Water Resources, said, “We are here on behalf of Mr. President. We have heard all that has been said.
“We want to assure you as you also know that Mr. President is not resting on his oars. He is concerned about the girls because they are Nigerians. He is concerned about the issue of insurgency and that is why he is making every effort to see that we overcome the challenges that have befallen the nation.”
Zainab Maina, Minister Of Women Affairs, said, “Our belief though delayed is that our daughters would return to us alive. All we ask for is a little patience.”
The Bring Back Our Girls Group have continued to campaign for the immediate release of the abducted Chibok schoolgirls.
