Do you want to ensure you keep your New Year’s resolutions? There is one simple way to help make sure you do
: sleep.
So says psychologist Professor Richard Wiseman of the University of Hertfordshire, who has found people who sleep well have better willpower.
To find this out, Wiseman conducted an online survey of more than 1,000 people. He found 60 per cent of those who reported sleeping well found it easier to achieve their resolutions, compared to 40 per cent of those who reported sleeping badly.
Wiseman told the Times (£) that evidence indicated the easiest way to change your life is “simply doing nothing and spending more time in bed”.
His comments are not the only reason to spend more time in bed in 2015. A study in last month’s journal of Cognitive Therapy and Research found people who go to bed late often have more negative thoughts than those who keep regular hours.
