In a bid to unite Ghanaians and calm tempers as the Supreme Court sits
finally to deliver its verdict in the 2012 presidential election
petition Thursday, August 29, there will be free drinks at the Z-Bar at
the World Trade Centre in Accra.
Ghanaians from all walks of life
-irrespective of their political affiliation or social status - are
expected to partake in this rare event at 5pm Thursday.
Chairman of the National Council on Persons with Disability, Andrew Nii Okaikoi, who is organising the event, told Myjoyonline.com that the idea is to "celebrate Ghana's constitutional era and to show the world our maturity on democratic front".
He
remarked that he is of high conviction that Ghana will be the winner
after today's ruling, hence the need for all to show that Ghanaians are
one and also peace-loving people.

The Los Angeles Unified School
District is passing out iPads to all 650,000 of its students this fall,
part of a $1 billion high-tech investment. Whether that's a smart move
depends on teacher training and a host of other factors, experts say.

America's second largest school district will be giving all
its students iPads, a move that is eliciting a great range of reactions –
delight from kids, excitement from teachers, and debate and concern
from education analysts.
Two elementary schools within the Los
Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) were the first to distribute
iPads to students on Tuesday. Forty-five more campuses (kindergarten
through high school) will roll them out to all the district's 650,000
students during the next two weeks. Pre-loaded with educational
software, each costs $678, more than in stores. A wireless network must
be installed on every campus, as well.
The
district's iPad investment is raising a host of educational and legal
questions, given that students will be taking the tablet computers home.
Among them are school spending rules, bond disclosure requirements for
the $1 billion needed to fund the program, and the lifespan of the
iPads.

Editors at Forbes magazine estimate

iPhone 6 concept shows thinner handset with touch-sensitive home button and 12MP camera
Just as smart looking as the iPhone 5, but 20% slimmer.
iPhone renders are a dime a dozen, but for once we have been graced
with a concept for Apple’s next flagship phone that seems very much a
possibility.
Created by Arthur Reis, a budding designer who aspires to join the
ranks of Jony Ive and Shin Nishibori someday, 3D renderings of the
iPhone 6 imagine a handset that looks largely identical to iPhone 5
(think: anodised aluminium casing with chamfered edges), but an
impressive 20 per cent slimmer at just 6.1mm thick.
The handset also features a 12-megapixel camera with an ‘iSight Pro’
sensor boasting an f/1.8 aperture and a ‘Magic TrackPad’ that replaces
the physical home button with a touch-sensitive equivalent.
As far as we’re concerned, this is one of the best iPhone concepts
we’ve seen, principally because it doesn’t go crazy on novel or
unrealistic features as most concepts do.
Apple is always trying to make its handsets slimmer, so a more
slender iPhone is within the realms of possibility. And with Samsung
upping the ante with a 13-megapixel camera on the freshly launched
Galaxy S4, we can certainly expect the iPhone 6 to match its competition
in the imaging stakes.
Kenya: Namibian Dillish Wins BBA - the Chase

NAMIBIA'S Dillish Matthews won the eighth season of the television reality show Big Brother Africa "The Chase" on Sunday night.
After spending 91 days in Biggie's house, the charming lady who was
labelled an underdog and a spoilt princess, has, however, made history.
Dillish did her best to stay out of trouble throughout her time in the
house.
The Nambian beauty beat four other finalists - Elikem, Cleo, Melvin
and Beverly - to win the US$300,000 (Sh26.1 million) grand prize. The
live finale also saw exciting performances from Ice Prince, Keko, R2Bees
and DJ Ganyani.
Windhoek-born Dillish is a third year Psychology student with a
passion for seafood. She describes herself as "caring, fun, troublesome,
loving and adventurous".
Dillish says her best quality is the fact that she's "very real and
straightforward". She values caring and considerate people and dislikes
those who are selfish and lazy.
The smartwatch race begins next week. After months of leaks and speculation, Samsung has confirmed to the Korea Times that it plans to announce its Galaxy Gear smartwatch at an event at the annual IFA technology tradeshow in Berlin on Sept. 4.
In the same conversation with the Korea Times, Lee Young-hee, executive
vice president of Samsung's mobile business, confirmed that the Galaxy Note III,
Samsung's pen-equipped, big-screen phone whose details have been teased
in media invitations, would also be announced at the event.
But after consistent speculation that Apple and Google have been working
on competing smartwatches, the big focus is on Samsung's watch.
"The Gear won't have a flexible display. The new device will enhance and
enrich the current smart mobile experience in many ways," Lee told the
Korea Times. "It will lead a new trend in smart mobile communications.
We are confident that the Gear will add meaningful momentum to the
mobile industry."
Some Details on Apple's Rumored iWatch
Lee emphasized that it will have a "nonflexible" display, despite the
company's work on creating flexible or bendable screens and the images
filed along with Samsung's "Galaxy Gear" trademark and patents.
Similar to the other tablets and phones in Samsung's Galaxy line, the
watch will be powered by Google's Android operating system.
Samsung did not immediately respond to ABC News' request for more
details on the watch and U.S. availability. As with previous
announcements at this particular European tradeshow, the products tend
to go to other countries first.
Apple, Google and Microsoft have all been rumored to be working on their own smartwatches as well. Apple filed for a trademark on the term "iWatch" in July, and has been hiring people from the fashion industry, presumably to work on the wearable product.
Samsung Galaxy S4 Review Apple CEO Tim Cook also said that the wrist was an area of interest for the company when thinking about wearable devices. Google has also been said to be working on its own watch powered by Android.

With injuries already to Mikel Arteta and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain,
the further fitness concerns throw more scrutiny on Wenger's bid to add
to his squad in the final days of the transfer window.
There were reports that Juan Mata Senior, father and agent of the Chelsea playmaker, was at the Emirates Stadium for the match.
Following the Spain playmaker's omission from the Chelsea starting
line-up at Manchester United on Monday night, rumours circulated he was
available for transfer.
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho denied those suggestions and Wenger believes recruiting the World Cup winner would be a long shot.
"I like him," said Wenger, who was beaten to the former Valencia playmaker's signature by Chelsea two years' ago.
"I watched the game last night and I've heard, like you, Juan Mata could be on the market.
"There is anyway in England a reluctance to sell to each other."
In recent days, Wenger has preferred to focus on the players already at his disposal.

Angolan Model Maria Borges tops Forbes Africa Magazine’s List for African Models

With appearances on the runway for designers such as Tom Ford and Marc Jacobs, Maria has been dubbed the most wanted African runway model of 2013.
With Maria at the top, the other African models that came close to snatching the title for number 1 include Ajak Deng from Sudan, Grace Bol from Sudan, Candice Swanepoel of South Africa, Liya Kebede of Ethiopia, Katryn Kruger of South African and Miss Universe competitor Flaviana Matata.

Nigerian boy flies to Lagos from home town hiding in airplane wheel cavity
According to Reuters - A Nigerian teenager hid in the
wheel compartment of an airplane and survived a half hour flight
to the commercial hub of Lagos from his home town of from Benin,
Arik Air said on Sunday.
Daniel Ihekina evaded airport security and snuck into the
tyre section of the flight just before the wheels went up for
take off on Saturday, airline spokesman Ola Adebanji said by
telephone.
Passengers spotted him emerging from the wheel cavity in
Benin and alerted the staff.
"How he got through security is something for the
authorities to investigate," Adebanji said. "He's lucky to have
survived it. Not many people can do that and survive."
He said that the plane only went up 21,000 feet because it
was a short flight, increasing the boy's chances of surviving
the thinner, colder air at high altitudes.
Adebanji said Ihekina was still being questioned by police
and that he said his family had mistreated him.

official end of support for Windows XP, Windows XP Professional for
Embedded Systems and Office 2003 by April 8, 2014 and therefore urged
its customers and partners to migrate to Windows 8 and Office 2013
platform.
Businesses in particular are feeling the most pressure to stay
up-to-date with an increasing need to protect their data and manage all
their devices while ensuring security and compliance. Windows 8 is
Microsoft’s latest operating system for modern businesses, building on

laptops, and newer form factors like Ultra books, All in Ones, and
tablets. Writeable CDs are today replaced by cloud-based storage

Pennsylvania: Mistaken Identity at Funeral

A Philadelphia woman has turned up alive nearly two weeks after her
family held a funeral and burial for her. Services for Sharolyn Jackson,
50, were held on Aug. 3. Carrie Minney, Ms. Jackson’s mother, said the
woman in the coffin looked identical to her daughter, except for the
nose; she says the family assumed something happened to it during the
embalming process. But Ms. Jackson showed up at a mental health facility
in Philadelphia last week. A spokesman for the Philadelphia Department
of Health said Ms. Jackson’s son and a social worker who knows her had
viewed photographs of a woman’s body and identified it as hers. The body
that was buried will be exhumed in hopes of identifying it.
