We often idolize celebrities to the point that there are no longer viewed as human but nothing serves as a more sobering reminder that they are just like the rest of us than hearing about the health issues they battle. The celebs on this list courageously face everyday with health challenges to overcome
surf through and check out these 13celebs and the serious medical conditions they are living with.





Medical Condition: Epilepsy
After Lil Wayne was admitted to the hospital in critical condition on March 13, 2013 for suffering three seizures in a row, the media speculated that the cause of his health scare was his constant consumption of cough syrup a.k.a. purple drank or sizzurp. While he is known to use the drug, the chart-topping rapper revealed in a Power 106 radio interview that he suffers from epilepsy, and that he’s had “a bunch of seizures” that the public never hears about. Some may recall that in October 2012 Lil Wayne was also admitted to the hospital after suffering seizures.

Medical Condition: Lupus
In 2010, Gaga admitted to Larry King that she had been diagnosed with borderline lupus, but said she didn’t experience any of the symptoms. Later in 2013, the “Born  This Way” singer was diagnosed with synovitis, a painful inflammation of the joints that was apparently the result of a hip injury she suffered but can also be caused by lupus
Montel Williams
Medical Condition: Multiple Sclerosis
Daytime talk show host Montel Williams revealed in 1999 that he had multiple sclerosis, a debilitating autoimmnune disease that affects the brain and spinal cord. One of the primary symptoms of the disease is chronic pain which Williams said he had for 10 years by the time he made his announcement.

Medical Condition: Parkinson’s Disease
Michael J. Fox has a had very public battle with Parkinson’s since he announced that he had the disease in 1998. The Back to the Future star was diagnosed at age 30 in 1991. Though the neurological disorder has severely affected his ability to move and speak, Fox told Parade Magazine that he no longer looks at living with Parkinson’s as a battle.

Medical Condition: Lupus and Heart Disease
While starring in the Broadway show Aida in 2003, Toni Braxton passed out, feeling light-headed, fatigued and a tightness in her chest. A trip to the emergency room revealed that she had pericarditis, an inflammation of the tissue surrounding the heart. In 2008, the singer was diagnosed with microvascular angina also known as small vessel disease and in 2010 it was revealed that Braxton also had lupus.

Medical Condition: Celiac Disease
While on an episode of The Late Show With David Letterman, actress Jennifer Esposito informed the host that she had been diagnosed with the autoimmune disorder celiacs disease, which damages the small intestines and prevents the body from absorbing food and nutrients properly. The disease is caused by a reaction to gluten. Due to her illness, Esposito’s character on CBS’s Blue Bloods was put on indefinite leave of absence. Eposito has mentioned plans of opening a gluten-free bakery.

as born epileptic, suffering seizures as a child. He was teased in school for his condition but coped with it by developing an eccentric, larger-than-life personality.

Medical Condition: Celiac Disease
The View host Elisabeth Hassblebeck also battled celiac’s disease for several years according to a 2009 Daily News article in which she discusses her condition. The at-times controversial TV personality says “No matter what I ate, I would soon be doubled over with cramps, awful indigestion, diarrhea – or all of the above simultaneously.” Hasselbeck now manages the disease with a gluten-free diet, which is currently the only known treatment for it.

Medical Condition: Diabetes
Halle Berry was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes back in 1989 when she became ill and slipped into a coma while shooting for her debut role on the TV show Living Dolls, a spin-off from Who’s the Boss. It was later learned that she was likely misdiagnosed and actually had Type 2 diabetes which she manages with diet and exercise.

Medical Condition: Lupus
The former Nickelodeon star had fans worried when wife Mariah Carey tweeted that he was in the hospital with kidney failure in January 2012. Cannon eventually revealed that he had been diagnosed with a form of lupus that affects the kidneys. Lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease that causes inflammation and damage to any part of the body like the skin, joints, and organs.

Medical Condition: Psoriasis
For someone like Kim Kardashian who makes a living off of selling her looks, suffering from an unsightly skin disorder like psoriasis can be a devastating discovery. The soon-to-be mom found red, flaky patches on her legs in 2011, leading her to a doctor who diagnosed her with psoriasis on an episode of Keeping Up with the Kadashians, of course.

Medical Condition: Sjögren’s syndrome
The tennis star was forced to withdraw from the US Open in 2011 due her issue with Sjögren’s syndrome, an autoimmune disease that causes the body to attack its own moisture-producing glands, i.e. tear, saliva and sweat glands. The disease caused her debilitating j-oint pain, swelling, numbness and fatigue but she was able to receive treatment, though, there is no cure

Medical Condition: Graves’ Disease
When Missy Elliot disappeared from the music scene years ago it wasn’t because she had run out of material or lost her touch as an artist/producer, it was because she was suffering from Graves’ disease, an autoimmune disease that causes hyperthyroidism. As a result, she suffered hair loss and a poor nervous system that made it hard for her to write or even put her foot on the car brakes. After receiving treatment, the 30-pounds-lighter MC is reportedly managing well.
