Dalene Bowden whose photo appear above was reportedly fired last week after giving a free lunch to a 12-year-old girl — but after intense backlash, it looks like she'll be able to return to her job as a cafeteria worker.
Bowden, who had worked in the Pocatello/Chubbuck School District of Pocatello, Idaho, for the past three years, said that after the student told her she had no money for food, she offered to pay the $1.70 charge — but her supervisor refused. So Bowden gave the student a free lunch.
She was then put on leave and subsequently fired, according to the Idaho State Journal
.
Interim District 25 Superintendent Doug Howell has since offered Bowden the chance to return, according to a statement from Pocatello/Chubbuck School District 25. A release from city officials on Wednesday stated that the entire chain of events was handled by school district officials, and that no elected city officials or employees were involved.
This is horrible!!!! This woman has a Conscience and was punished for it!!! This is the letter she received from the school district.
