It is expected to comply with dress code requests when invited for an event but sometimes things happen & dress codes are not followed.
Genevieve Nnaji showed up for the Lagos premiere of Kunle Afolayan’s new movie October 1st, looking splendid on blue outfit, but it was obvious the actress had not stuck with the “1960s inspired” dress code for the event

Gennie rocked a black & blue dress, which she teamed with a blue graphic rose hand bag and a pair of black heels…there was nothing ‘old school’ about her outfit. And some wondered why.
She gave her reason for not sticking to the dress code,
I didn’t know about the dress code till very late last night, so I just got into this gown today because I had to be here to support my friend.
I believe what really matters is that she honored the invite and came out to support her friend.
