Last year, Kotaku first reported on a trend among Japanese students: smushing cream puffs in people's faces on their birthdays. Things have, well, escalated. P

 just the way you celebrate your birth day with friends and well wisher rejoicing with you while you dress up one of your best attires etc,its never like that in Japan 

As pointed out on Naver, instead of simply dancing  and rejoicing with you, youth in japan  are splattering each other with various combinations of flour, mayonnaise, tea, ketchup, tomatoes, tofu, raw eggs, Coca-Cola, orange juice, birthday cake, habanero sauce and, um, even lube. Here are some birthday celebrations....P

For example, this birthday boy was covered in 500 grams of flour, 200 grams of mayo, 100 grams of ketchup, a teaspoon of yogurt, a can of beer, a package of tofu, and an egg. P

This one is worse: Margarine, wasabi, whole tomatoes, a large serving of Japanese beef stew, soybean flower, and katsuobushi (dried tuna flakes). Blergh. P

"This is repulsive," wrote one commenter on 2ch, Japan's largest bulletin board. "I don't even want to think of them as a Japanese person like me." Another added, "These people are completely nuts." 2ch commenters also wondered what the appeal of these birthday celebrations were. P

Well, we are just going to let you go in on this one. A Harvard Business School Alum – Grace Choi, has created a 3D printer that does one thing – creates perfect makeup at home. She calls it The Mink and has plans to set the retail price at $200 (N32,335).

She unveiled the product at the Disrupt New York conference on Tuesday 6th May 2014, and told the audience that The Mink creates products that can rival/are comparable to major labels’ current color offerings.

Answering questions on what ingredients the printer uses, she said all beauty brands from Chanel to Cover Girl use the same base ingredients called Substrates. This substance forms the base for lipsticks, eyeshadows, bronzers, cream blushes and more, which the brands mix with other ingredients and pigments to create cosmetic formulas.

She claims to have sourced for these Substrates, and The Mink will mix this with inkjet pigment to form a unique color which she believes will meet the basic needs of her target audience of women between 13 to 21.

How does it work? It is actually kind of simple. Just choose a shade of colour – this can be from Youtube or a photo of a friend. The Mink uses a basic color picking software to convert the color to a computer-readable hex code. The user can then transfer the color into an image reading programme like Photoshop, and click Print. The Printer does the rest...see video below

She told Tech Crunch that she thinks The Mink will “Take out all the bull s***” from the beauty industry. She added that “Big make-up companies take the pigment and the Substrates and mix them together and then jack the price. We do the same thing and let you get the makeup right in your own house.”

The Mink is set to hit shelves next year.

technology extraordinaire!...Japanese Man Arrested for Having Guns Made with a 3D Printer

A twenty-seven year old Japanese man was arrested on suspicion of printing and possessing guns. This is the first instance of such an arrest being made in Japan. P

According to ANN News, Yoshitomo Imura allegedly downloaded gun blueprints from a foreign site and then printed the resin guns with his 3D printer. P

Imura had apparently uploaded videos to YouTube in which he fired off what looks to be a 3D printed pistol. Last month, police seized five 3D printed guns from Imura's Kawasaki City home. 

According to authorities, it was possible with two of the guns to pierce over ten pieces of plywood by firing rounds, and thus, the police deemed it was possible to use the guns to kill.P

"I made them myself," Imura is quoted as saying, "but, I didn't know they were illegal."P

It is possible to own guns in Japan, but the country has incredibly strict firearms regulations. It's not clear whether others will be also arrested for printing guns, but we're pretty sure this wry Twitter user will evade the law with his printed "gun."P
