Nigeria: Funke Akindele Launched 'Jenifa' Perfume!

Popular Nollywood actress Funke Akindele most known for her hit movie Jenifa, has been in the news a lot lately. First, she parted ways with her husband of one-year, Kehinde Oloyede. Now, the mill is abuzz with the news that she has launched a perfume line. After a picture emerged on-line supposedly showing the perfume named 'Jenifa'.
Various news outlets have reported that she is, indeed, launching a perfume line. Nigerian Entertainment Today recently confirmed that they spoke to Funke's publicist, Ayo Ola-Mohammed, who confirmed the report. He was quoted to have said "It is true; Funke has launched a perfume business. The sample is currently in circulation. When she launches it officially, she will let you know". But Encomium Magazine also said they talked to Funke and she denied the report saying: "That's not true. I'm not aware of anything like Jenifa perfume. I'm not launching any perfume. I don't know anything about it".
Indeed, if Funke does make the perfume, she'll be cashing in on her immense popularity from the Jenifa movie; in Nigeria and beyond. She'll also join the ranks of fellow African stars like Ruggedman, Soundsultan, Genevieve Nnaji, Ini Edo and Sarkodie who have also cashed in on their popularity to launch clothing, shoes, accessories and lifestyle brands. But how much of this 'Jenifa' thing Nigerians are willing to buy into can only be determined by time.

Chanel Goes Gaga For Rainbow Makeup!

It seems like just about everyone has Gaga fever these days—including one of the biggest fashion designers! Karl Lagerfeld seemed to have Lady Gaga in mind yesterday when he debuted the Chanel Spring/Summer 2014 collection at Paris Fashion Week. Models sported rainbow eye makeup that looked similar to the colorful makeup Gaga wears on the cover of her new 'Applause' single.
The pop star has been rocking the over-the-top look on and off stage since the release of the mega hit, even painting it on mid-performance during the recent VMAs. Focusing on majorly bold eye makeup, the rainbow makeup look has a messy, hand-painted vibe to it. While Gaga has been spotted rocking a more painterly mix of colors all over her face, Karl Lagerfeld stuck to just rainbow eye makeup for the Chanel show.
The chanel designer is a fan of Gaga's, so we kind of think he might have been inspired by the trailblazing singer's colorful 'Applause' look.
Do you think Chanel's rainbow eye makeup was inspired by Gaga? Would you ever try a version of this trend? Sound off in the comments below!

Why Carly Rae Jepsen Is Speaking Out Against Bullying

USA NETWORK PREVENTIONListen up: Carly Rae Jepsen is singing to stop bullies tonight! In honor of National Bullying Prevention month, she teamed up with USA Network and Flip the Script to stop the pain that 13 million kids feel every year when they're bullied. Carly was inspired by her brother. She described him to us as "that popular boy in school," but she didn't think he was so cool until he did something brave. When everyone was picking on just one kid one day at school, he spoke out, and they stopped. "I remember thinking, 'Wow, this is the coolest he's ever been.'"
She's performing in Las Vegas at #UniteLIVE: The Concert to Rock Out Bullying where she'll announce an awesome contest that you can participate in to try and make a difference too. 13 million seems like a number that's hard to dent, but you can make it happen! If you're a student between the ages of 13-18, you can submit your own commercial that takes a stand against bullying. The winning entry will be professionally produced and will run on-air on USA Network in February 2014.
So let loose and let your creativity shine. If you win, you'll get flown out to LA to see your commercial come to life. You'll also receive an iPad! The contest is open from October 3 to November 20, so get those cameras rolling.
Need extra motivation? Take it right from Carly Rae. "Change doesn't happen overnight," she told us. "We can spark dialogue that will make an actual difference in putting a stop to bullying." And if you do happen to be one of those affected by bullying, just remember to love who you are and "embrace your individuality," she said. "The things that make you different are the things you should love most about yourself."
For live updates right from the concert, follow @CharactersUnite tonight.

Nigeria: Independence Day Special - Miss Nigeria Turns Traffic Warden

Who would have expected an alluring damsel, especially a beauty queen to take on a toga of a 'traffic warden' on a special day as the Independence Day? This was exactly what reigning Miss Nigeria 2013, Ezinne Akudo chose to do to celebrate the 53rd Independence anniversary of the country.
Draped in jean pants and a white T-shirt, underneath the orange and lemon 'Traffic Wardens' apron, she took her stand at the T-junction of Adeola Odeku,Victoria Island, directing traffic.
According to her, choosing to control the traffic was a way of giving back to the society, in view of the fact that traffic remains one of the major problems Nigerians still face at 53.
Explaining that the gesture was not a one-off thing she said she would continue on 10th of October with a car wash phase, where she would be on ground to wash cars for those who wish to patronise her and use the proceed thereof to support her pet project known as 'Serve Nigeria'.
According to her, project 'Serve Nigeria' is her own way of combating sexual harassment in the society and the mission only became a passion for her after a friend of hers fell victim to rapists last year.
On ground to make sure she had a hitch free day as a traffic warden were the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, Bar Beach Police Station, Mr. Fayoade Adegoke and two policewomen, Inspector Morayo and Corporal Abiola Khadijah.

Bill Gates Pressured to Quit Microsoft

Three of Microsoft's top 20 investors want Bill Gates to quit along with CEO Steve Ballmer

Bill Gates, co-founder of Microsoft, talks at the Clinton Global Initiative, Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013 in New York.
Three of Microsoft's top 20 investors have called for its co-founder Bill Gates to resign as chairman and leave with outgoing CEO Steve Ballmer to allow the company to have a fresh start.
Microsoft investors hungry for the company to recreate its business model have reportedly called for its co-founder Bill Gates to resign as chairman and leave with outgoing CEO Steve Ballmer to allow the company to have a fresh start.
Three of the top 20 investors in Seattle-based Microsoft called for Gates to resign out of fear that his role would limit a new CEO's power to pivot the company away from dependence on the PC market and more toward the cloud and mobile industries, sources told Reuters on Tuesday. Those three investors collectively hold 5 percent of the company's stock, while Gates is the largest individual shareholder with 4.5 percent of the company's stock, so Gates' removal is unlikely, Reuters added. This call for Gates' removal highlights an intense desire to revamp Microsoft ahead of Ballmer's plans to step down as CEO before August 2014.

Gates handed the CEO title to Ballmer in 2000 and shifted to focus on his philanthropy work with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Gates has also been selling about 80 million Microsoft shares each year as part of a plan that would end his financial stake in the company by 2018, according to Reuters.
Despite the decline of the PC market Microsoft still reported $77.85 billion in annual revenue for the fiscal 2013 year during its last quarterly earnings report in July. Ballmer has been criticized for allowing companies including Google to take advantage of the rise of mobile and cloud technologies since 2000, but critics trying to remove the old guard would go too far if they removed Gates, says Al Gillen, system software analyst with International Data Corporation market research firm.
"Bill Gates has brought a lot of value to the company, and his invo1vement still has some value," Gillen says. "It's somewhat shortsighted on the part of investors to want to remove Bill Gates."

The push to remove Ballmer makes it unlikely that a new CEO would come from within the old guard of the company, which Gillen says has been hesitant to redesign strategies within the company, including its software licensing business model. Gates also has focused mainly on his philanthropic work since 2000, and much of the decision-making in the company since then has been made by Ballmer, Gillen says.
Microsoft's purchase of Nokia announced on Sept. 3 is among the company's steps to become a device provider instead of merely a software provider, but more needs to be done for Microsoft to adapt its business to succeed in the increasingly device-centric world, Gillen says.
"Some things are going to have to be broken at Microsoft," Gillen says. "The new CEO has to be willing to rethink everything."
Alan Mulally, chief executive of Ford, may be the leading candidate to replace Ballmer, according to AllThingsD. Mulally was a former CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes based in the Seattle area,
