Singapore is the most expensive major city on Earth?!
This is according to the Economist Intelligence Unit’s Worldwide Cost of Living Survey, which surveys over 150 different goods in 133 cities around the world.
East Asia and Western Europe dominate the top end of the table in terms of cost of living, while Almaty in Kazakhstan ranks as the cheapest city surveyed.
In order, the top ten most expensive cities were:

Singapore (=)
Hong Kong (=)
Zurich (-1)
Tokyo (+7)
Osaka (+9)
Seoul (+2)
Geneva (-3)
Paris (-2)
New York (-2)
Copenhagen (-1)
London ranked as the 24th most expensive city globally, and 10th in Europe.

The bottom of the rankings looked like this (sorted cheapest to most expensive):

Almaty (-6)
Lagos (-16)
Bangalore (+1)
Karachi (-3)
Algiers (=)
Chennai (=)
Mumbai (+4)
Kiev (-6)
Bucharest (-2)
New Delhi (+2)
Jon Copestake, editor of the survey, said:

With UK cities slipping down the ranking and Asian cities rising we now see only four European cities among the 10 most expensive.

This is a significant change from 10 years ago when European cities made up eight of the top 10.
