However, this wasn’t always the case.
“I had to regain my fearlessness because it did go away for a little bit.” Rihanna, 25, told Glamour for its November issue, which hits newsstands Oct. 8. “My mother said something to me a few years ago: ‘I’ve seen something in your eyes I’ve never seen before: fear.’ She was like, ‘No, this is not you.’ I just got back to being OK with myself.”
And who exactly is Rihanna?
The singer insists that there is more to her than the bad girl image she portrays. “Rihanna, that tends to be people’s own [creation],” she admits. “Robyn is who I am. Rihanna–that’s an idea of who I am.”
Along with regaining her confidence, the singer continues to experiment with bold new looks, currently trying out a cropped curly ‘do. The style chameleon said she places icons like Nicole Richie and Princess Diana high on her best-dressed list, but reveals that her ultimate fashion inspiration is her mom.
“My love for fashion–let me say, my admiration for fashion–started with my mom,” she said. “I used to watch her get dressed. She was around my age right now, and she was so fly. So fly.”
Thanks to mom, Rihanna is a style icon in her on right and share her passion for fashion with viewers nationwide on her new TV Show “Styled to Rock,” premiered Oct. 25.
“I felt like there were all these talented people in New York who had a very keen eye for style and design, but I couldn’t find them [to work with],” she added. “I get excited by discovering new designers.”
