Lifetime's upcoming original made-for-TV movie Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B may have had its share of obstacles during production, but the network released this incredibly short teaser on Friday, and has begun the hard sell of pushing the film on social media.
The biopic, which features Nickelodeon star Alex Shipp as the beloved singer, is based on the book Aaliyah: More Than a Woman, a biography from author Christopher Farley.
It follows Aaliyah's life, from the time she appeared on Star Search when she was only 10 years old, to the height of her career, when her life was cut short in a tragic plane crash at the age of 22.
Disney star Zendaya Coleman had originally been cast by Lifetime to play the title role, but the actress backed out days after the announcement was made. Many attribute the decision to drop out of the project to strong and vocal disapproval from Aaliyah fans over the internet.
Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B premieres November 15 at 8/7c on Lifetime.
