Royal Caribbean's luxurious Quantum of the Seas is set to make its maiden voyage - a two-night journey from Southampton to a port near New York - after years of anticipation. Touted as the world's first smartship, it is the most high-tech and futuristic cruise ship in the world, boasting the North Star observation capsule (bottom left), robot bartenders (inset), speedy wifi and a skydiving simulator.

Debut: Quantum of the Seas' inaugural two-day voyage will take it from Southampton to a port near New York

After its maiden voyage the ship will sail to and from the Caribbean during the 2014-15 season before relocating to Shanghai
